When planning your next camping trip to Danforth Bay, there are three things you might want to consider adding to your itinerary if you’re the kind of person who loves exploring the great outdoors.

Bike Ride Through the Freedom Town Forest

The Freedom Town Forest spans over 2,661 acres of conservation land and connects to several other conserved properties to create a 5,300+-acre area of conservation land in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Danforth Bay Camping & RV Resort is conveniently located adjacent to the Jackman Ridge Trail. So you can enjoy a moderate 3.6-mile bike ride that will take you through the lush forest, over streams and around the picturesque Trout Pond. All you need is a mountain bike, helmet, water and a trail map from The Depot.

Rent a Boat and Explore Danforth Bay and Ossipee Lake

Did you know Ossipee Lake is the sixth largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire? With its four connecting bays, Ossipee Lake is the perfect place for guests to relax on the open water or explore the hidden nooks and crannies within the channels. Danforth Bay has a boat ramp next to Cove Beach, which provides easy in-and-out access for guests wishing to bring their own motorboats. And kayaks, canoes and standup paddleboards are all available for rent from the boathouse at Brookside Beach. If the boathouse is unattended, please check with The Depot.

Hike Mary’s Mountain

Named for a Shawtown resident of the late 1800’s who tended sheep in the meadows near the top, Mary’s Mountain is a ¾ mile hike up a moderately steep trail. Each direction, the hike can take between 20 and 30 minutes, and it rewards you with two rocky outlooks that offer sweeping views of Ossipee Lake and the surrounding mountains, as well as the Danforth Bay grounds. This hike is well worth the effort. The trailhead can be found in the right-hand corner of our upper RV storage lot. The activities department leads frequent trips up this trail, so if you’re more comfortable hiking in groups, please check the activities schedule or inquire at The Depot.
